20 Craft Beers on Tap
On a recent trip to Canada, Our Beer Flights visited Montréal, Quebec. Now most people in the United States know that Canadians love their beer, and there are lots of industrial beers in Canada that have been successful in the States. But just like here, Craft Brewers are taking things to the next level and switching up the flavours (sic) for the discerning customer.

One great place to visit and dine in downtown Montréal is Brasseur de Montréal (BDM).  They are located in the Griffintown area of Montreal, close to the canal and only a 15 minute walk from Old Montreal.  It's an industrial area for sure, but with a lot of charm to take in the city's beauty and the canals.

This working class neighborhood had the brewery here for years, but they have recently expanded next door to include a restaurant where they serve large portioned, traditional pub food that goes great with beer. In fact, a lot of the menu items include beer in their preparation.  And yes, they do have Poutine with lots of options.

Another plus - You can buy your beer here during office business hours.  They don't have Growlers yet (it's a Provincial law that has to be changed!), but you can buy a variety of 4 packs and 12 packs.

So sit back on your chesterfield (Canadian for couch) and watch Marc-André Gavreau talk about BDM and how the first Canadian Carbon Neutral Free Craft Brewery got started.  It will open your eyes to craft brewing the next time you're in Montréal.

NY Finger Lakes - Lake Drum Brewing

NY Finger Lakes - Lake Drum Brewing

Downtown Geneva, NY By Lake Drum Brewing
As we had said in our last post, you'll be surprised at the amount of craft brew that is popping up around the Finger Lakes in New York.  Outsiders know the Finger Lakes region as an area where you can go and taste wines from the many local vineyards.  But there is also a bubbling up of craft brewers who have made this a destination for craft beer lovers.

Downtown Geneva, NY
That's what we found when we visited the town of Geneva on Seneca Lake.  We were really lucky to have had a host who knew the area and the both the beer and wine markets.  He pointed us to a downtown location that was new to the area and has a really interesting background story.  The brewer has some really original beers that he's brewing, especially his Sour Beers.  He's taking his knowledge from working in the wine industry and spreading it to the craft brewing industry.  And if you don't like Sour Beers, they'll have other NY State craft beers on tap for you to enjoy.

NY Finger Lakes - Climbing Bines Craft Ales and Hops Farm

Climbing Bines Craft Ales and Hops Farm

Climbing Bines Craft Ales and Hops Farm
Earlier this year we were able to enjoy a trip to the Finger Lakes Region of New York.  We stayed in Geneva on Seneca Lake, where there are a multitude of wineries that line the shores.  We had a lot of fun driving around the area and enjoyed the fine food and beautiful scenery.  We also were lucky enough to stumble on a couple of breweries.

The first was recommended to us by one of the vintners, Climbing Bines Craft Ales and Hops Farm.  They actually grow their own hops right at their farm where they also have the tasting room.  The owners really want their visitors to have a great time and invite them to walk the grounds.  They even have Frisbee golf on the weekends.   You can follow them on Facebook to check out their latest events.   They make a wide variety of craft ales and you're sure to find some that will quench your thirst.

This place is very family friendly, and they have great views to Seneca Lake.  Here's a quick 2 minute video that will show you more about the location.  Just click on the TAP below to watch.
